This document covers the manager experience for evaluating direct reports and team members in performance reviews.


Overview

As a manager, you evaluate your team members' performance by reviewing their self-assessments, providing your own evaluation, and conducting interviews. The "My Team's Reviews" tab gives you access to all reviews where you are the evaluator.

Starting an Evaluation

When You Can Start

You can begin your evaluation when:

  • The employee has submitted their self-review (in sequential mode)
  • The campaign has started (in parallel mode)

Opening a Review

  1. Click on a team member's review row
  2. Review modal opens with your evaluation form

As you complete your evaluation, you can:

  • Reference the employee's self-assessment
  • Compare their perspective with your observations
  • Identify alignment and differences
  • Note topics to discuss in the interview

Tips for Managers

Before Starting Evaluations

PREPARATION CHECKLIST:

□ Collect peer feedback (if available)
□ Review notes from 1:1 meetings throughout the year
□ Check previous review for context
□ Understand rating criteria and calibration guidance
□ Block dedicated time for thoughtful evaluation

During Evaluation

Writing Effective Feedback

FEEDBACK STRUCTURE:

Situation: What was the context?
Behavior: What specifically did they do?
Impact: What was the result?

Example:
"During the Q3 product launch (situation), Alice proactively
identified a security vulnerability and worked extra hours to
fix it before release (behavior). This prevented potential
customer data exposure and saved an estimated $50K in potential
remediation costs (impact)."
